Chances are, you've heard of baptism, whether you've spent a lot of time in church or not. But do you really understand what it's all about?

If not, you're in good company. Baptism goes way back; even Jesus himself was baptized—yet its true meaning is still discussed today. It's totally fine to feel a little confused. However, baptism is an important part of your faith journey and worth exploring.

If you’ve decided that you’d like to be baptized, or just want to learn more, the resources on this page can help you with your next steps.  If you're looking for information for kids, there's a dedicated section below to help you and them understand baptism better and help you decide if they're ready.

While there are a lot of questions that can revolve around baptism, we’re going to focus on three major ones:

  • What is Baptism?

  • Who should get Baptized?

  • Why do we Baptize?

This video is meant provide some answers and help you learn more about Baptism at The Waymart Church:

If you feel you need more information, continue to read on.  In the video, we answered three essential questions:

What is Baptism?

  • - Baptism is an outward expression of your commitment to Jesus as Lord and Redeemer of your life.

  • - Baptism is NOT a ritual with power, a social spectacle, or a path to salvation.  Only a faith in Jesus Christ can bring that.

  • - The process of Baptism is an individual going into the water, being fully submerged, then coming out of the water.  This is meant to represent, and identify with, Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.

Who should get Baptized?

  • - Everyone who has trusted Jesus and forgiver and leader of their life.

  • - Acts 2:38 - "Repent and be baptized, every one of you..."

Why do we Baptize?

  • - Because Jesus set this example. (Matthew 3, Mark 1, Luke 3)

  • - Because Jesus commanded it.  (Matthew 28)
